Alt-Pop Duo BETWEEN FRIENDS unveils new track, “Really Good Cry.”

By Kala Herh.

The band returns with one last single of the year, delving into intimacy, love, and the complexity of young relationships.

Just as you’ve made your year-end music lists (and checked them twice, too), BETWEEN FRIENDS presents another track for your consideration. Today, the Los Angeles-based duo drops “Really good cry,” an emotionally driven song that reminisces on a failed relationship. And for those dating in the digital age, it might strike a chord – There is the ever-present, and relatable desire for more stability, yet it is never quite fulfilled.

“Really good cry” comes hot on the heels of their album, I Love My Girl, She’s My Boy, which was released earlier this year. The 14-track project chronicles their experiences with new flings, longtime friends, and the complexities that come with each relationship. The album, rich in tone and vulnerability, features collaborations with a handful of their musician friends including Teezo Touchdown, Bakar, and EDEN. To close out this year, BETWEEN FRIENDS took these new tracks as well as their arsenal of fan favorites (“affection” and “iloveyou”) on the road, making stops at Los Angeles, New York City, and even London.

“Really good cry” is produced by Brandon and Luka Kloser and is inspired by the band’s real-life experiences in love. On the track, Brandon, acting as the male perspective, descants, “I just want to try and be your friend when you’re ready.” To which, Savannah pleads for more, singing, “All I got was a really good cry / and I guess I really needed it so thank you a lot / cause my face is all wet but it feels kind of nice when it’s hard to see.”

At just under two minutes, the synth-ladden song delves into the complexities of emotions in a relationship and a yearning for more. And with it, the pair document an all too familiar tale of unmet needs and the relationship’s eventual fallout.
