Amber Brooke: A Musical Prodigy with an Old Soul

By Ally Reavis.

Amber Brooke may be 15–years-old, but her passion for music is beyond her years.

Fifteen-year-old blossoming musician from London, Amber Brooke, learned to play the guitar at 10. “I think I started because I always just used to sing around the house,” she said. The first song Brooke learned was “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers, a now-retro 2012 hit.

Brooke’s charming voice, vintage taste in music, and wise nature paint her as an old soul. Despite her age, Brooke’s musical influences are from her parents’ and grandparents’ generation. Songs by Elvis and Bryan Adams are her go-to for covers. She learned about Elvis from an exhibition her mother took her to, where she saw many of his old relics. A microphone, in particular, stuck her. His music, though, drew her in.

The young musician’s taste is not a far cry from the taste of most teens, though. Olivia Rodrigo, Adele, and, of course, Taylor Swift inspire her. She’s currently counting down the days until she sees Swift and Rodrigo live.

I find it scary to go on because I’m like, oh my God, people are watching.”

Brooke first performed live at her boarding school in year nine. She performed at small school concerts, leading up to a big one at the end of the year. “I find it scary to go on because I’m like, oh my God, people are watching,” she said. As soon as she starts playing, though, the crowd disappears in her mind and her nerves dissipate. “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac is one of her favorite songs to perform live.

Brooke started making her own songs a few years ago. Although she has yet to be satisfied with any of her songs just yet, she hopes to make her own music one day. She participates in various sports and is a proficient student, but her passion lies in music. “I think I like it because it’s not like math or science, which are really hard because there’s only one answer,” she said.

“I’m just always singing,” said Brooke. Her friends, also young musicians, often join in for harmonies. Brooke is a talent to look out for as the next generation of musicians rise.
