Balenciaga’s new Circuit Sneaker is the perfect fit for those unwilling to ditch avant-garde for comfort.
Balenciaga Creative Director Demna is back with another sportswear innovation. On Tuesday, Balenciaga kicked aside the basic gym shoe and replaced it with the dynamic Circuit Sneaker.
Demna’s newest shoe design balances avant-garde with comfort. The Circuit Sneaker sole, which swells under the ball and heel, is visually interesting while fostering agility. Its aerodynamic vented panels accomplish a lightweight feel.
Three distinct Balenciaga logomarks embellish the shoes’ exterior, accentuating its adaptability–many logos for many occasions. The Circuit wearer is the star of the party and the gym alike.
The most striking design detail is the shoes’ proportions. Without making a scene, the shoes are large. Curves and arches balance the toe and heel. Elegant and sleek, they’re not your Dad’s everyday chunky sneakers.
The Circuit Sneaker’s name calls to mind an electric current formed by a continuous loop of exercise and energy. The shoe, invigorating in both look and feel, earns its namesake.
Portraits by Chris Lensz capture the shoes’ chicness. In a traditional domestic set, seated models stare into the camera wearing silver and white Circuit Sneakers. Model Annabelle Pouilly sports shorts, a zip-up, and a Balenciaga to-go coffee cup. In contrast, model Khadim Sock wears a modest head-to-toe plaid look. Together, the portraits accentuate the sneakers’ versatility.
Balenciaga’s newest kicks reinstate their luxurious sportswear motif, which came to fruition in their Pre-Fall 2024 Collection. By glamorizing tracksuits, gym bags, and other gym essentials, the collection paid homage to the fitness-obsessed city of Los Angeles.
We’re left to speculate what sporty staple Demna will spin next. In the meantime, fashion people will hit the gym with newfound gym motivation in the curved shape of Circuit Sneakers.
