Dua Lipa’s Latest Track “Houdini” Celebrates Singledom

The pop star returns to music with a new song that teases her forthcoming body of work.

“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” Lipa shares. “‘Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end.”

Last Thursday, the musician made her grand entrance back into pop with a brand-new single. Lipa has been hinting at the release of new music with a pair of teasers this month – which fans suspected might be the case as the singer wiped her Instagram profile. And they were correct. With this clean digital slate and new release, it seems to mark a new era for the pop star.

“You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans,” the singer continues.

To create the single, Lipa enlisted the help of her close friends and collaborators, including Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. She also worked with songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. and Caroline Ailin, with whom she co-wrote “New Rules” and “Don’t Start Now.” The new release also comes with an accompanying music video directed by Manu Cossu alongside cinematographer André Chemetoff. The video sees Lipa post-rehearsal in a dance hall, revising her choreography under fluorescent lights.

“A lot of this album was written in those joyous moments of absolute chaos and how I moved through the world with lightness and optimism of whatever the outcome may be,” says Lipa.

Last Thursday, the pop star unveiled her new track and the accompanying music video at the English National Ballet in London, where the music video was also filmed. There, Lipa shared with fans: “My heart’s racing, I’m so excited. I can’t believe we’re finally here, we’re about to go again!”

In addition to creating new music this year, Lipa has continued to grow Service95 – the editorial platform she started in 2022, which highlights her current obsessions in fashion, culture, and entertainment. The accompanying podcast, Dua Lipa: At Your Service, features thoughtful conversations with high-profile guests, from fellow performers and artists to authors and activists. And earlier in the year, Lipa expanded the platform yet again with her Service95 Book Club, which shares her affinity for storytelling and reading.
