Emporio Armani and Our Legacy Work Shop Men’s and Unisex Collection

The collection blends vintage and modern with a splash of cats.

Emporio Armani and Our Legacy Work Shop have joined forces to create an innovative collection of men’s and unisex wear, released November 17th, 2023. The two houses bring together the experience of old and new, resulting in a collection that feels modern and vintage all at once. Our Legacy is an independent fashion brand based out of Sweden and are no strangers to collaboration. The brand has worked with companies like Artek, Stüssy, and even natural winemaker Gabrio Bini, but never with a luxury fashion house as esteemed as Armani. It was an unexpected project from Emporio Armani as well, who rarely collaborates with other brands. The collection’s whimsy and style is a manifestation of the surprise in the pairing of these two brands. While both sophisticated and young, the collection threads an element of fun throughout the items–cats.

The Our Legacy Work Shop is the experimental and innovative realm of Our Legacy, where garments and fabrics are explored in new and creative ways. Emporio Armani’s elegant aesthetic combines with Our Legacy’s modernity to create a unique exploration of past and future.

Creating unisex clothing is nothing new for Giorgio Armani. The designer has been making clothes suited for men and women since the late 70s and early 80s. As society was changing, the fashion house changed with it. Women were beginning to climb the corporate ladder, as men loosened their definition of masculinity. Armani’s suits had a bit of softness to them, making them wearable for anyone. The fashion house continues that legacy today, with the Our Legacy Workshop collaboration being only one of many unisex collections by the brand.

Shot by Mark Borthwick and paired with an animated film by painter and animation director, Gustaf Holtenäs, the campaign has an intriguing feel. Borthwick is known for his minimalistic work, but stands out for his use of over-saturation and warm hues. He broke conventions in the 90s with his use of color and became one of the most influential fashion photographers of the decade. His legacy continues as he works with brands like Armani, Balenciaga, Zara, and more.

The collection consists of leather coats, flight jackets, wool, tailored suiting, and buttoned shirts. Combined with the graphic tees, corduroy, denim jeans, and whimsical ties, the collection has a casual air, with prices ranging from 120 to 1200 EUR. The clothes are complemented with accessories ranging from leather gloves, wool berets, necklaces, and sunglasses.
