From an interview with wunderkid Aidan Gallagher, to an introduction to the young faces coming up the ranks at the UN, here’s five reasons to download Mission’s UN Issue.
Our latest issue is dedicated to the United Nations, the (quite literally) world-saving organization that has diffused conflict, made strides in the fight against nuclear warfare, and provided aid amid famine and natural disasters. From features on showbusiness’s UN royalty like actress and UN Ambassador Kat Graham, to profiles on the activists and policy makers shaping the world as we know it, this issue is not one to miss.
Scroll down for five reasons to buy.
1. Meet the UN’s next generation. In this first-of-its-kind shoot, Veteran photographer and longtime Mission collaborator Craig Mcdean captures the young faces stationed at the UN’s Midtown headquarters. This is where you can get acquainted with our cover star, Tamara Chammah, Senior Project Management Associate at the UNAOC.
2. “I had this convergence of learning all this new environmental information while people were starting to pay attention to what I did online. I felt obligated to pass on the things that I was learning because we didn’t learn about them in schools.” Read our interview with wunderkid Aidan Gallagher, the 18-year-old star of Netflix hit Umbrella Academy and United Nations Environmental Goodwill Ambassador.
3.“There are many things we can learn from young people. I think when one gets older, you kind of learn to accept the status quo and live with the reality, but young people have a very idealistic and positive overview of the future.” Read our conversation with one of the most powerful people at the UN, Jayathma Wickramanayake, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth.
- Fashion juggernaut Chanel is dedicated to honoring the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. During the making of our last issue, we visited Chanel’s Le19m headquarters, where the world’s foremost couture ateliers work together in Paris’s 19th arrondissement, weaving couture magic. “One of the designs on which I spent more than 30 hours was a jacket for the Chanel Métiers d’Art 2021 collection, which was presented at 19M. I really liked working on this model, the initial material was very fragile, which required all the more precision and delicacy,” says embroiderer Victoria Fuchs.
- Read our interview with Love in the Villa and Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham. Who, alongside her flourishing acting and singing career, is intermittently traveling the globe as a UNHCR Ambassador. “In Mexico and Central America, I met people who were fleeing persecution for being gay or transsexual. Others were escaping gang violence, while others were leaving their land devastated by climate change. While the root cause may change, they all aspire for a better life for themselves and their children,” Graham explains of the plight of refugees.
