My Mission is… to champion a more diverse and equitable creative industry.

My Mission is… to champion a more diverse and equitable creative industry, where women, trans, and nonbinary people not only exist but thrive behind the scenes, screens, and lens.

MY BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR HAS BEEN… one of the highlights of my career so far has been the opportunity to work alongside the legendary Nile Rodgers & CHIC as their tour assistant. This experience not only allowed me to work with one of the most iconic figures in the music industry but also taught me invaluable lessons about professionalism, creativity, and the power of collaboration.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE? Navigating a creative industry that often lacks representation and relatability for people like me. As a woman in this field, it’s been difficult to find mentors or role models who share my experiences or understand the unique challenges I face. This has fueled my determination to carve out my own space—Petok Productions—and to help create a more inclusive environment for those who come after me.

ONE THING YOU’D LIKE TO CHANGE PEOPLE’S MINDS ABOUT? I’m passionate about changing the perception that backstage roles are reserved for a specific demographic. Women, trans, and nonbinary people not only belong in these roles—they can excel in them. By embracing a wider range of perspectives and experiences, we can create richer, more innovative work. People need to understand that when we use our advantages to support others, we contribute to a stronger, more inclusive industry.

A GREAT PIECE OF ADVICE: “You can’t be what you can’t see.” This piece of advice resonates deeply with me because representation is not just a buzzword—it’s the foundation for progress. When people see someone like them succeeding in a role they aspire to, it opens up a world of possibilities.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST ABOUT YOUR GENERATION? Our collective drive, resilience, and relentless hustle to build a more equitable world. We’re not satisfied with the status quo—we’re pushing for meaningful change in every area we touch. Our generation is characterized by a determination to create opportunities where none existed before, and by a refusal to accept the limitations imposed by previous generations.

BIGGEST OBSTACLE FACING YOUR GENERATION: One of the biggest is the pervasive influence of social media. While it can be a powerful tool for connection and creativity, it can also be a source of distraction and self-doubt. The constant barrage of images and stories can make it easy for us to compare ourselves to others and feel like we’re not progressing as we should. But it’s important to remember that success isn’t a race, it’s a marathon. Everyone’s journey is different, and it’s vital to stay focused on your path without getting sidetracked by what others are doing.

ONE WAY TO HELP: Believe in yourself. You are incredible and unique, and the world needs what you have to offer. Don’t let anyone diminish your worth or make you doubt your abilities. If you’re a backstage professional who identifies as a woman, trans, or nonbinary, and you’re looking to connect with a network that understands and values your contribution, I encourage you to reach out. Together we can build a community that supports and uplifts each other.
