A vision in hues of blues, greens, and pinks, the Armani woman for this season’s Armani couture runway is a playful yet worldly woman who indulges in her femininity and sophistication.
Last week in Paris during Couture, Giorgio Armani released a stunning collection reminiscent of dreamy mermaids emerging from the sea foam for his Giorgio Armani Privè Haute Couture SS24 show. Consisting of a menagerie of voluminous lace dresses with full, sculptural skirts, embroidered long jackets, finely tailored trousers that narrow at the bottom, and sequined kimonos among many others, the collection can be described as authentically Armani at its core with its sleek silhouettes and exceptional craftsmanship while exhibiting a new, fresh touch. There’s that classic Armani elegance, but there’s also this unbridled joy, a touch of whimsy, and a heavy dose of surrealistic dreaminess that inspires awe in this collection.
Titled Haute Couture en Jeu, Armani takes a delightful approach to this season. Indulging in bursts of creativity in a space normally considered serious and high pressure. Instead, Haute Couture en Jeu, or ‘Couture is having fun’, allowing the designer to envision a suspended moment of wonder and imagination, a space where one can explore ethereal and magical worlds beyond our scope. Taking us on an imaginary journey from West to East, Armani produces the portrait of a woman who, as we follow her adventures and journeys into the surreal and the sublime, collects meaningful tokens (a pattern, a fabric, a color, a memory, a feeling) and turned it into something uniquely her own through the sheer force of imagination and curiosity. The fabrics are airy and weightless, while the colors ranged from deep opulent tones enriched by the jacquard to the frothy pinks and greens of lace and tulle to heavenly palettes of galaxies that splash over the glitter of fine embroidery.
Looking at this collection, it serves as a reminder that the otherworldly and the alien are not so far from us. These ethereal worlds exist in our oceans and in our galaxies. That playful curiosity and a predilection for the beautiful and the mysterious are all that’s required to embark on an incredible and imaginative journey. It’s escapist, sure, but light-hearted and joyful. A reprise, a breath of fresh air from an otherwise suffocating moment in time that we can all relish and delight in, until the next collection arrives.
